Mark Johnston has been firing in the winners in recent days and the yard looks set for more success at Wolverhampton on Friday.

The Middleham handler has sent out nearly 10 winners in the last two weeks and Smooth Sovereign looks booked to boost the tally.

The King's Best colt cost 260,000 guineas as a yearling but was evidently a little slow to mature as he did not run as a juvenile.

However, Smooth Sovereign made up for lost time when a three-quarter-length second behind General Blucher on his debut at Lingfield.

Smooth Sovereign did not enjoy the best of runs that day and, given a clear sight, he may well have been even closer to the winner.

He will certainly have learned plenty for the experience, though, and the step up to 12 furlongs in the Race To Pontin's For Easter Maiden Stakes should suit.

Benllech can chalk up win number four this year in the Treat The Family To Easter @ Pontin's Handicap.

The four-year-old has been plying his trade with considerable success for Michael Wigham this winter and was only narrowly denied a four-timer when going down by a length at Lingfield last month.

He soon atoned for that reverse, however, when scoring over six furlongs just six days later.

Despite his rapid rise up the ratings, Benllech still seems to have a little something to give and it would be dangerous to ignore him here.

Paul Nicholls and Jamie Snowden have farmed Sandown's Grand Military Gold Cup in recent years but it may pay to look elsewhere this season.

The duo have claimed the last three runnings but Philip Hobbs can break the run with Out The Black.

Although he has not exactly sparkled in two starts this term, Out The Black looked a decent prospect when winning at Bangor last April.

His jumping let him down on his most recent outing at Exeter last month but he should be up to this task.

Although Nicholls is taken on in the amateurs' event, compensation could be provided by Woolcombe Folly in the Greg Banham "National Hunt" Novices' Hurdle.

The five-year-old showed up well in two bumpers earlier in the season and looked a slightly unlucky loser on his hurdles bow at Taunton.

Tony Martin can launch a successful raid on Ayr with Farmer Grant in the J2O Handicap Chase.

The nine-year-old was denied by just a length at Gowran last time when he could not find the necessary turn of foot but it would be no surprise to see him strike for his shrewd handler here.

Nicholls should also be in the money at Leicester as Le Passing will take some beating in the Mallard Pawnbrokers Hunters' Chase.
